Nightfall in Chatan
We finally got some decent weather yesterday after a week of rain, clouds and cold. I decided to head over to Chatan and walk around with my iPhone 6 and my Fuji x100s. Just for a change I've had the TCLx100 on for a couple weeks now. I love the 35 equivalent I get from my x100s, but sometimes it's just nice to shoot with a 50mm focal length. I never grow tired of how even the most mundane can look interesting in late afternoon light. I shot the next two images from my car. I see so many photos from my car, but usually can't stop or get to my camera in time.
Hoping for a decent sunset, I walked over to the sea wall behind Depot Island. There are usually lots of people watching and photographing the sunsets, and I am always torn between shooting silhouettes of the people or the sunset. The sun was still fairly high on the horizon, but was casting some cool light across the water.
At low tide the algae, or whatever it was, looked interesting on the rocks, so I decided to venture down to the shoreline to get a more interesting low angle near the rocks. I started out shooting with my iPhone 6+, and I was pretty happy with the results I was getting. I found myself wishing I had left the TCLx100 teleconverter off in favor of the wider built-in 23mm lens, but didn't want to change near the ocean with all the salt in the air. Yea I'm kind of crazy about my gear like that.
As the sun set behind the clouds the low light was really starting to bring out noise on the iPhone, even at ISO32, so I switched to my x100s and took a few more. With the 50mm equivalent focal length it gave me an interesting perspective at this angle. Unfortunately, I also lost quite a bit of dept of field focusing on the rocks so close. I kind of like it though. Always experiment with different focal length, angles etc. You never know what you can get. I though this one worked well as a square crop. What do you think?
Happy with my shots I decided to head back to the car. Along the way I grabbed a couple of street shots in American Village.
