Denver with the iPhone X
This past April I went to Denver for the annual #GSMCON Government Social Media Conference. Normally, I would always travel with my Fuji x100F, but this time I decided to only take my iPhone X and leave behind my beloved x100F. Honestly, I was looking for a way to travel lighter and with my shiny new iPhone X only a few months old still, it seemed like a good idea.
It was my first time visiting Denver or anywhere in Colorado and I really liked it. It was very clean, spacious and the people were generally very friendly, but not overly so. Although it felt like winter to me coming from Okinawa, I guess it’s was spring there. Most of the trees were still bare but many were in full bloom. Some trees look like cherry blossoms but I’m not sure if they were or not.
Although the temperature was in the mid to high 30’s, I enjoyed taking a walk each morning. Even without a coat, it felt really nice to me, at least for the 15 minutes or so I was out walking. I enjoyed walking to the nearest “real” Starbucks about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The so-called Starbucks in the hotel was lame—as they usually are at places that sell Starbucks, but are not owned by Starbucks. Yes, I’m a little opinionated about Starbucks. Ha Ha.
While I did get out a little, I spent most of my time in and around the hotel. I tried to take the typical images that most people I think take when they are traveling, and many were taken inside which I think is usually a better indicator of a camera’s ability than outside with lost of light and blue skies.
The shot below of the coffee cup was shot inside the hotel with several lighting sources and the iPhone X performed like a champ.
I also shot a short video that I edited with LumaFusion on the plane on my way back to Okinawa. Great video editor if you are looking for an iMovie alternative on your iPad or iPhone. Please forgive the crappy audio cutoff at the end of the video. I couldn’t figure out how to fade the audio out with LumaFusion.
Verdict, I was impressed. I mean, for the most part, I‘ve been impressed with the photos from my iPhone since the iPhone 6s, so it came as no surprise the iPhone X did so well. It handled indoor lighting well and excels at difficult mixed lighting environments like restaurants. Apple says it’s the best iPhone they’ve ever made, and I totally agree with them. I just wish I could carry it around without a case and show off the amazing design. It’s really something to be proud of in both design and performance. Oh, and it looks great with the new Apple Watch Series 3 too. :)
