Mobile Monday

Welcome to the first Mobile Monday post, dedicated to mobile-only information and photos. I shoot more these days with my iPhone than with my beloved Fuji x100F. Sometimes I feel guilty and feel like I need to force myself to shoot more with my x100. Fact is though, it shouldn’t matter if I’m shooting with my iPhone, my x100F or any other camera. Photography isn’t about the gear we use, it’s about the moments we capture and the dedication to the craft. We are all searching for compelling stories about and photos taken with our current camera of choice. So, I’ve decided to try an experiment for a while and batch post photos taken with my iPhone or any other mobile photography device like my iPad or my DXO One. I may not post every week, but for now, I’ll call it Mobile Monday. Cheesy maybe, but it works.

Sometimes photos will just be snapshots of stuff or scenes I think are cool. Sometimes it will be my attempt at something more. Either way, it will only be photos taken with a mobile device. I’ll always include in the caption what I used, the settings, and what I edited with.

Living on a subtropical island I’m naturally attracted to the beautiful scenery around me, so I will post a fair amount of these type shots. Okuma resort (below and the golf course above) located in northern Okinawa has been a favorite spot for family staycation and vacations alike for many years now. No matter how many times I visit, I never tire of the photo opportunities that present themselves to me each trip.

However, living on an island can be both a blessing and a curse. There’s beauty all around you, but every now and then island fever sets in and you long for a trip somewhere else. I try to fly to Tokyo in mainland Japan during times like this. I wrote a blog post a while back called Tokyo Perspective about the location changing your perspective. Check it out here if you like. Below is an idea of what the coast looks like along the way back home from Okuma Resort.

Apple’s largest store in Japan opens

Labeled by Apple as “largest in Japan”, their latest shrine for the faithful opened in the Marunouchi business district of Tokyo. The third in a string of new openings in Japan since April of last year, the new store in Marunouchi is across from the historic Tokyo Station and features two-story rounded vitrine windows that are similar to the shape of an iPhone. The unique windows help bring the vibrant outside inside and bring life to the modern interior. I can’t wait to visit next time I’m in Tokyo. You can checkout the story from Apple here.

So that’s all for this week. Let me know if you like this idea of Mobile Monday. Thanks for stopping by.
