Sunset Silhouettes with the iPhone 6 Plus
Living on a tropical island, sunsets are taken for granted. We all notice them, but seldom take the time to stop and enjoy them. The other day I decided I was due for a little sunset therapy, so I drove over to Araha Beach in Chatan. Even though, as always my trusty Fuji x100s was in my bag, I reached for my iPhone 6 Plus. Sometimes it's just more fun to challenge myself and use my iPhone.
Amazing Japanese Magic Towelettes (Oshibori)
Japan is famous for it's high tech toys and gadgets, and I am always finding cool stuff that seems to only exist here. Recently I discovered something new, or at least new to me. In Japan small towels called Oshibori are given to customers at restaurants to clean your hands before eating. A local ramen restaurant here in Okinawa called Motonari offers a slightly newer, high tech version of the simple towel. Tablets in a jar that expand to a full-size towelette with water. And they are disposable. So cool! Ok, maybe I'm a little too excited, but I do think it's a cool idea. They look like large Alka-Seltzer or breath mints. Good thing I didn't try to eat one. :)
Seijin no Hi, Coming of Age Day in Japan
Today is Seijin no Hi, Coming of Age Day here in Japan. Seijin-no-Hi is a national holiday held on the second Monday of January to celebrate, and congratulate those reaching the age of 20 years old between April 2nd of last year, and April 1st of this year. Ceremonies were held this past weekend at local and prefectural offices, and young people all over Japan dressed up to celebrate. Many women celebrated by wearing furisode, a style of kimono with long sleeves traditionally meant for unmarried women, while traditional dress for men involves a men's style kimono with hakama. Many men also wore western style suits.
